For my country I chose England, and just to clear the air England is not the UK. The UK is made up of four different countries, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, who have all agreed to be recognized as one kingdom under the English crown. My fascination with England comes from my heritage. While I see myself as an American above all else, I do value my ancestry and am always interest in learning more about it. So, what I know about England so far is that we’re not that much different from each other. We are tied very closely politically and culturally: sharing a common language, history, and social values. While many people see traditional English food as breads, cheeses, and stewed meats, the English actually have a very diverse national cuisine. Stemming from the English Empire, England has adopted many other cultures’ cuisine into its own diet. From Indian spices, to Italian noodles, and even American hot dogs; the English apatite is incredibly diverse and adaptable. But England does have a very distinct traditional diet. The English love their meat. A traditional English meal will consist of some type of beef or pork. They are also rather fond of cheese, traditionally cheddar, and they enjoy sugary treats such as puddings and custard as well. Another traditional English food lies under the category of “pub food.” This is where you will find items like fish and chips. Pub food is mainly complimented with salt and vinegar, and is more thought of as a snack rather than an actual meal.
