The
Philippines! I chose this culture
because I am half Filipino myself.
Growing up in my Grandmas house hold, I was surrounded by Filipino
culture night and day. Not to mention
all the Filipino food my Grandma, Great Grandma, and Mom would make our
family. Being in this culture for a
while now, I know that food is a huge part in an everyday Filipino life. My Mom experienced hardships when living in
the Philippines, and finding food was a priority in their family. One thing she told me was that at every meal
there was always coffee rice. When there
was any meat involved, it was usually a special event due to their
hardship. Although this is how my family
lived in the Philippines, there are many more delicious foods that is around
and that I have experienced myself. Many
people in the Philippines use their fingers to consume food. Although some may use forks and spoons,
eating by hand is most common. The most
common fiesta food is called lechon, it is basically a full size pig. Filipino food is heavily influenced from the
Spanish. This is due to the Spaniards
colonization of the Philippines for nearly three centuries. Filipino food is
also influenced from the Japanese due to World war two, and Chinese and Indian
cuisines. Today’s Filipino food is such
a huge variety bend from the past all the way up to the future due to the past
races that lived in the Philippines.
