I will be focused on the culture of Italy, the boot-shaped country, which is located in Southern Europe. The Italian culture has always been an interest for me growing up, because on a family vacation when I was six years old we visited Epcot and ever since we have had random Italian food nights usually once a month with the whole family together. My great grandparents were part Italian, which is also why I was and still am interested and chose to research this culture even more.
I already know that pizza was invented in Italy and also is one of the few words recognized all around the world. Geographically, I already know that Italy is relatively small and just slightly larger than Arizona in the United States. I was aware of the popular Italian saying 'Buon Appetito', meaning enjoy your food. Often before meals, that is said by whoever made it or supplied it. I hope to find out more about Italy’s government, economy, language, various foods, and also the little traditions and greetings that differ from what we are used to.

An interesting fact that I learned today about Italian food specifically is that the average Italian consumes half a pound of bread a day, which shows how popular bread is in Italy. Italians also seem to farm quite a bit, which is a benefit because they do not always have to rely on outside sources. Another interesting fact about Italian food that I just learned is most Italians eat pasta at least once a day. But that doesn’t mean they eat the same thing always, because there are many different ways to eat pasta, with a variety of different toppings and sauces. I knew that pizza was invented in Italy, however I learned that it was in the location of Naples, Italy. This shaped the food of Italian cuisine because it shaped the sauces, cheese, and overall looks of food associated with Italy. Below are two pictures, of the location of Naples as well as the type of pizza created there.

My family is Italian and we have different types of pasta probably 4 times a week so I could only imagine how often they eat it there. When I was in Italy, the main foods we ate were pasta, pizza and either a type of salad or seafood. There is a definite difference between the way the food is prepared out in Italy versus here in America.
