I'm doing the country China. I picked this country because my mother was born in China, so it will be interesting learning from her and my grandma. I was excited when I heard that we would be doing this because I could get some tips and guidance from my mom and grandma since I'm not such a good cook and it will be a new challenge.
One interesting fact about Chinese food is: You know how Chinese
food restaurants give away fortune cookies when you pay for your food; well
they aren't even Chinese food, the Americans actually thought of that idea and
made it.
Another one is: People in China still get around on their bicycle or they walk. When my grandma was living in China, she didn't have to drive a mile to the grocery store, it was right under her own apartment building.
China and the United States have something in common. In China there are McDonalds and other fast-food restaurants, China's economy has problems like we do, and there are places where it’s either
rich or poor.
Food can bring your family closer like when you’re eating
together at the dinner, that’s a big thing in China too.

I knew the fact that the food we as Americans called "Chinese food" wasn't actually Chinese food as well. My aunt actually immigrated from China, and she has cooked actual Chinese food for my family before. Just like you said there aren't fortune cookies, orange chicken, or anything we would think of as Chinese food.
ReplyDeleteThe fortune cookie not originally being a part of Chinese culture but an American made idea didn't come that much as a surprise to me but I didn't know that the grocery store would be so close to someone's house. Pretty interesting!
