Come to England Mates

Food cooked in England is
similar to the United States. During this blog I will be focusing on the main
dish of the Sunday roast with Yorkshire pudding. This meal is mostly eaten on
Sundays, but can be made during the week as well. This meal consists of roasted
meat, roasted potatoes or sometimes mash potatoes, with Yorkshire pudding,
stuffing, vegetables, and gravy. Roasts can be lean, but some British add beef
fat into the pan. You get a lot of Yorkshire pudding to fill up your stomach,
and have smaller pieces of the meat because it is expensive.
The Yorkshire pudding origin
is unknown. This meal is compared to a less grand form of Christmas dinner.
“This tradition is served to all of Europe and other countries that have
Christian heritage (Wikipedia).” Some families will leave the meat in the oven
until they get home from church and eat right away. Different parts of England
cook, and serve this meal in certain ways. In some occasions, this meal is
served with one to two glasses of wine. They have enough food for leftovers
during the week to make sandwiches with their tea, and to make cottage pie the
next day as well.
Personally, I don’t know if
this would be my favorite meal. I am not a huge fan of roast beef, but maybe
sometime in the future I will try Yorkshire pudding and will enjoy it. The
pudding is suppose to be really good, and can make several foods out of the
recipe.
Exciting to see the yummy recipes and traditions that England has. Looks like a great and exciting culture that would be awesome to experience.
